See, I am setting before today a blessing and a curse - the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today, the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn away from the way that I command you today...
Deuteronomy 11:26-28, NIV
There in a nutshell is the agreement that God has set before His people of every era: Obey and you will be blessed; disobey and you will be cursed.
Throughout Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the Israelites of God's eternal covenant: Obey and you will be blessed; disobey and you will be cursed!
This was the same deal that He set before the world when He spoke directly to the people during the times of the Patriarchs. It was the agreement He made with Adam and Eve before they were driven out of the Garden. It was the deal He made with Noah's generation before He destroyed the world with a flood. It was the understanding He had with the people of Sodom and Gomorrah before He rained fire and brimstone from the sky.
It was this basic covenant that He made with the nation of Israel before He made them fall in the desert, and now Moses is renewing this covenant with the next generation before he dies: Obey and you will be blessed; disobey and you will be cursed!
And, most importantly for you and I, it is the covenant that He has made with the entire world after the sacrifice of His only begotten Son: Obey and you will be blessed; disobey and you will be cursed!
Which choice will you make? Which choice... are you making right now?
If you have been choosing badly, then you need to rethink your position before God. For, although God is filled with grace and mercy and love, you will have to choose whether you will accept these blessings on His terms. If you have been choosing badly, why not repent and make a different choice? Your very eternity depends on the right choice!
"Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven."
the words of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 7:21, NIV
Today is the 25th day.
