Is Today the Day?

Most people do not succeed. For although they know what to do and how to do it, they do not feel like doing it. They are not inspired to action.

W. Clement Stone

My days are consumed like smoke...

Psalms 102:3, KJV

Will today be the day that you finally begin? Begin what, you are probably thinking, so perhaps I should be more specific. Will today be the day that you begin to do what you have known for a long time that you must do or, at the very least, should be doing? Will today be the day that you begin to advance purposefully towards your dreams?

For me, it was becoming a daily student of the Bible. I don't mean simply a reader, for I knew in my heart that I was obligated to do my best to truly understand God's Word, but I had simply never taken the time to do so. I was newly married, I had just started a new career and had even effectively been placed in charge of the youth group at church. I really was busy, but the heart of the matter was becoming uncomfortably clear to me: I was not a daily reader and student of the Word because it simply did not seem that important to me.

I was not inspired to action.

I have had many such instances in my life where I found myself needing to do something, but not being inspired to do it. Important things like spending more time with my family. Necessary things like giving up bad habits. Beneficial things like getting proper exercise and losing weight. Worthy goals like finishing my master's degree and getting our finances into shape.

Eternal things like speaking to a loved one about Christ or encouraging them to live a more fulfilled life once they were a Christian.

We have all had such things in our lives that we knew we should be doing, but again we simply let them go because we did not feel inspired to action. And by doing so we have let go of vital, monumental and lifechanging moments that could have changed the direction of our relationships, our dreams, and our very eternities.

And the days have gone by and been consumed like smoke before our very eyes. Before we know it, we find that we have missed out on life itself.

So, let me ask you this: Are you saved? Do you believe that if your life were to end unexpectedly this very day that you would be with God for all eternity, or is there an all-too-real possibility that you would be separated from Gpd and Christ forever? In your mind's eye, place yourself on your knees at the Judgment throne of God. Honestly appraise your chances of hearing the verdict that you are hoping for. Realistically assess the possibility of finding out you are lost forever.

Do not for a moment think that this is a silly or whimsical suggestion, for you truly will appear before the Lord at the Judgment and so will those you love. What will they hear when God renders His just decision as to their eternal soul?

These are the very types of things that have the potential to inspire us to action, and a wise person will find that motivation and determination before it is too late.

So, will today be the day? Will you become a daily student of God's Word so that you can find out from Him what He expects of you. Perhaps you already have done this very thing and are determined to do so for the rest of your life in order that you may serve Him for the rest of that part of your existence. Well done! Now you can move on to some of the other things that you know in your heart you need to do. Things such as spending more time with your loved ones and working on those important relationships. Things like getting your financial house in order and losing that extra weight that you are carrying.

Things like making your dreams and most cherished goals become a reality.
