But Moses said to God,
"Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh?"
But Pharaoh said,
"Who is the LORD, that I should heed His voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD..."
Exodus 3:11; Exodus 5:2, RSV
Consider the two men, Moses and Pharaoh. One was humble, and one was arrogant. One was hesitant to lead, and one was appalled at the suggestion of being led by anyone. One asked who am I, and one asked who is the LORD.
Now consider this: Both men initially refused to do what God commanded them, and both initially raised the ire of God. The difference was that Moses, though a reluctant leader, was willing to try to serve the LORD in the way that He commanded. Pharaoh on the other hand believed himself to be a god, and didn't believe that anyone - neither man nor the LORD - had any right to tell him what to do.
As a result of these two different attitudes, one man was able to bring an entire nation to the salvation and deliverance from God, while the other man brought ruin and destruction on an entire nation. Who would have thought that the decisions of one man could be the difference in salvation or destruction for so many people?
When you honestly appraise your own life... which person are you? Which do you want to be? The correct answer to those questions may very well be the difference between salvation and ruin - not only in your life, but in the lives of those who rely on you.
And Jesus came to them and said to them,
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always to the close of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20, RSV
Today is day 14 of the 30 day challenge to study the books of Moses, with Exodus 5-8 being the text for today. May God and Christ richly bless you as you hear Their voice and do your best to lead others to the salvation and deliverance that is available only in Them!
