"I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut."

Revelation 3:8, NIV

This is one of the greatest promises in the Bible: Jesus has placed an open door before the Christians at His church in Philadelphia. That means they can have access to Jesus as long as they want that access. That means, should they so choose, that they could be in Heaven with Christ some day and nobody could prevent that from happening - except, of course, themselves.

I believe we have that same opportunity. Jesus said in John 10:9, "I am the gate; whoever enters through Me will be saved." In John 14:6 he said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." So we can see from these two statements that not only is Jesus the way to salvation, but there is no other way. Some might think this is too restrictive, but it is just the opposite. Perhaps an illustration will help us to see why.

Did you ever watch "Let's Make a Deal"? The final segment of that show allowed contestants to choose one of three available doors. If they guessed right, they won fabulous prizes, but if they guessed wrong they got something that was completely worthless. It was a purely a matter of luck as to which prize they got.

But it is not that way with Christ. While there are lots of "doors" in life, representing all sorts of options from which to choose, only one door is needed and that door is Jesus.

Further, that door is clearly marked.

And, it is placed before those who would seek Him.

And, it cannot be shut by anyone but you.

That means, should we so choose, a guarantee of eternal life. This is not to say that entering by this door does not take effort, for it takes great effort. It also does not mean that we don't have any searching to do, because we are required not only to make an intense search, but also a correct one. It also means that you cannot go back once you have entered through that door and still hope to be saved.

That's where your study is paying off! The Bible tells you what the door is, where it is located, how to enter, and that we cannot turn back.

And best of all, no one can shut that door!

That means Heaven!

That's why we study!

"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."

I John 5:13, NIV

This is day 88 of the 90 day challenge to study the New Testament, consisting of the 14th through 16th chapters of Revelation. May God richly bless your efforts to find the way and enter in!
