"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."

Colossians 3:1-2, RSV

Set your minds on things above, not on things on earth! Easy to say, hard to do!

Part of the great test that God has given us is our struggle with balance. We live in a physical world with physical requirements, yet we are to keep our focus on a realm that we cannot see with our physical eyes  - the Bible refers to this realm as a "heavenly country".

That's why faith is so important! We are told that faith is having a confidence in something that we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1). We are told that the righteous will live by faith not by sight (Romans 1:17). Still, while our minds can reason these things, we cannot see them, so it is sometimes hard. It is hard to keep the proper balance - is it not?

That's why we need a mindset of heaven! That's why those who have been raised with Christ (Colossians 2:12 tells us that those buried with Christ in baptism have, by faith, been raised with Him) need to be continually seeking the things above. Only through a regular habit of studying God's word, can we keep that focus that we so desperately need.

If you don't have that mindset now, why don't you get a new one? You will be eternally grateful that you did!

"But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared for them a city."

Hebrews 11:16, RSV

This is day 63 of the 90 day Bible study, with today's readings being the first through third chapters of Colossians. May God richly bless you as you set your minds on things above!
