Day 71: How to Be a Born Again Christian

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

John 3:3-5, NKJV

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:23, NKJV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new

II Corinthians 5:17, NKJV

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26-28, NKJV

Born again! It sounds appealing, doesn't it? We live in a world where everyone seems to be beaten down, tired, and old. But Jesus offers us a chance to be born again! It is a great offer of salvation, and the way to go about it is really quite simple and readily understandable.

God's plan of salvation is as simple as it is beautiful. Jesus tells us we must be "born again" of water and of spirit in order to enter the kingdom. Peter tells us that this requires not only a baptism, but repentance as well. Paul tells us that it requires faith, and Jesus in the same conversation with Nicodemus that He tells us to be born again also refers to this belief (John 3:16). Paul refers to this being born again as "a new creation" stressing in the II Corinthians passage above that it is only for those who are "in Christ", and then telling is how to get "into Christ" in Galatians.

Are you born again? Not only is it required, but it will give you that re-birth that mankind so desperately needs in this sinful world in which we live.

Today's reading is from John chapter 3. It has some of the most familiar and most important teachings ever made by Jesus, and it is certainly worth our time to read it!
