Day #11: Jesus Will Take Your Burden (If You Let Him)

"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Matthew 11:20-30, NIV

Of all the offers Jesus has made us, this is one of the best. We look back upon a difficult year and forward to one that may be even more challenging, and realize that we cannot do it on our own - no one can. We see the turmoil that is going on, combined with the worry for health that so many have for themselves and loved ones, and then add in the poverty and uncertainty created by the shutting down of business, and we realize that it is simply too much for a person to bear.

It has always been so, from the beginning of time until now. People have struggled with the happenstances of life, plus the problems caused by sin, and you have to conclude that life has always been too hard for man to tackle on his own. That's where Christ comes in: He has offered to exchange the physical, emotional and spiritual burdens that we all carry, for His burden that is light and easy.

And that "burden He offers us is a pleasant service to God. It's odd, though. So many do take Him up on his exchange, only to try and take their own burdens back. So, in the end, they find themselves with the gentle burden of Christ added to their own crushing burdens and it becomes the straw that broke the camel's back. So many people mistakenly conclude that Christianity is just too hard, failing to realize that the difficulty is not with the serving of Christ, but in the attempt to serve both God and the world. And those who make this error find the truth in Christ's statement that no man can serve two masters... we simply were not made for that kind of load.

So, if you have been carrying the "weight of the world" on your shoulders, why not try the offer that Christ has made - why not trade Him your burden for His? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Today's reading is from the 11th chapter of Matthew. It has the power to change your life if you will let it!
