Day 1: Who Will Stand for God?
Then I heard the voice of the LORD saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I, send me!"
Isaiah 6:8, NIV
It is one of the greatest stands ever taken. The people of Israel had gone too far. They were making a mockery of the laws of God. They were full of greed. They were sexually immoral. They were shedding the innocent blood of their children with their own hands. Then they would go and worship before the LORD as of they had done nothing wrong.
But God had had enough! So He raised up a prophet who would have the courage to tell the people and the leaders to their faces that they had done wrong. And Isaiah took a courageous stand and said, "send me!!" Then God had Isaiah give the following message to these people who thought they could sin and still be considered God's chosen people:
- You are bringing meaningless offerings and this must stop
- Your hands are full of blood
- Your deeds are evil and must be taken out of my sight
- The faithful city has become a harlot
- Those who forsake the LORD will perish
And that was just a very small part of chapter one!
As you read through the book of Isaiah, you will see within its pages a nation that looks very similar to our own. We need to think about that, for God had Isaiah warn that nation and then He destroyed them when they refused to repent.
Let me ask you this: Do you think that God will treat the United States of America any different in 2016 than He did His chosen nation in the 6th and 7th centuries B.C.?
It's something to consider, isn't it? This is why we read! I pray that you will take up the challenge to read the books of the Prophets of God.
See how the faithful city has become a harlot! She was once full of justice; righteousness used to dwell in her - but now murderers!
Isaiah 2:21, NIV
Today is the first day of the 30 day challenge to read through the books of the prophets of God, with Isaiah 1-7 being the reading for today. May God richly bless you as you seek to learn His will and do it!
