The Next Big Challenge

"The mind of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly."

Proverbs 15:4, RSV

This next 30 day challenge will encompass the history of the Israelite's return from exile, as well as the books of poetry and the books of wisdom. It is an important section of Scripture. You may have never read some of these books, while others will be as familiar to you as old friends.

The books of Ezra and Nehemiah tell the history of Israel's return from their seventy years of captivity, and the rebuilding of the temple at Jerusalem. Esther tells the remarkable story of one of the most courageous women to have ever lived. The book of Job is the account of one man's hardship and blessing, and gives insight into some of the most common (and least attractive) traits of men.

The book of Psalms is one of the greatest revelations of God's love for mankind ever written. It contains some of the greatest words of comfort for men during times of distress, as well as revealing the blessings that flow when men walk in God's ways. The book of Proverbs contains principles of common sense that are unparalleled in any collection of man's writings on wisdom and philosophy. Ecclesiastes is a book of warning for all men who get caught up in the all too common habit of seeking worldly things over spiritual things, and the book of the Song of Solomon is one of the most beautiful love letters ever penned.

In short, this next 30 day challenge provides an overview of history and God's dealings with men that can be found nowhere else. It is a big undertaking to attempt to read this broad cross section of God's revealed Word in such a short period of time, but if you will take up this challenge, you will have a perspective of God's inspired Word that is vital for those who would have the courage to follow the Master.

I hope that you will take up this next challenge - you will be glad you did!

"Give me understanding, that I may keep Thy law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of Thy commandments, for I delight in it."

Psalms 119:34-35, RSV
