"Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do all the law which my servant Moses commanded you; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go."

Joshua 1:7, RSV 

 

The next challenge is to read through the books of the judges and the kings - the leaders whom God chose to guide His people. He started with Joshua, and the instruction you read above was to set a standard for those who would lead God's people: 

 

• They were to be strong
• They were to be courageous
• They were to be careful to obey all of God's laws

 

As you read through these next books and chapters, be sure to note how God's promise of success for the faithful was always fulfilled. Be sure also to note how God's promise of punishment for the unfaithful was also, always fulfilled.

 

Wouldn't it be nice if our own leaders would heed the commands above? Obviously, not in following the laws given through Moses, since these were nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14-15); rather, in following the New Testament laws of Christ.

 

We seem live in a lawless era when it comes to God's laws. The leaders from both of the major political parties in America have all but abandoned the laws of God - and those that they haven't yet abandoned, they have perverted. When God's leaders did that in the Old Testament times they were punished by God. When the people decided to follow the practices of these evil leaders - rather than God's righteous commands - they were punished as well.

 

Do you think that it will be any different in our modern day and age?
