Day 9: Standing With God
We look for justice, but find none; for deliverance, but it is far away. For our offenses are many in your sight, and our sins testify against us...
So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter.
Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.
The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.
He saw that there was no one,
He was appalled that there was no one to intercede.
Isaiah 59:11-12, 14-16, NIV
Perhaps as well as any other Scripture, this passage in Isaiah describes the disappointment that God has in His people when they do not stand with Him against sin. Isaiah points out that there is no justice - that people look for deliverance from God, but none is coming - why? It's because of their sin! Truth is nowhere to be found. It has gotten so bad that those who try to avoid evil actually become victims of evil. God reveals that the problem is there is no one who will intercede for the victims of this wickedness... and He is appalled!
Fast forward 2,700 years to our time. Pornography, fornication, adultery and homosexuality are the rule, not the exception of our day. Those who speak out against these sins are persecuted. In some cases they are prosecuted. And there is no one!
Our own government has decided that the killing of the unborn is not enough. Our President promised that his new healthcare system would not include the funding of abortion by those who were against it. But, he lied! He lied and members of both political parties helped him in that lie. Many of us said nothing. Emboldened, these wicked men and women passed a law that everyone would not only have to pay for these torture killings of the unborn, but also pay for organizations who were desecrating the corpses of these innocent victims so that they could sell their body parts to the highest bidder.
And many people put up with it without saying a word. As a matter of fact, many people who consider themselves righteous don't see the big deal, and they wish that people who think that it is a big deal would just shut up. We in our modern times have become no better than the Israelites at the apex of their sin.
God was appalled then... how do you think He feels now? Maybe it's time to stand with God!
Then I heard the voice of the LORD saying, "Whom Shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I, send me!"
Isaiah 6:8, NIV
Today is day 9 of the 30 day challenge to read through the Old Testament books of the prophets, with Isaiah 59-66 being the reading for today. May God richly bless you as you seek His will and as you purpose in your life to stand with Him!
