Day 5: The Key to True Riches
The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high; He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness.
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.
Isaiah 33:5-6, NIV
As we go through life, we seek riches with passion. We want money. We want power. We want fame. We want enough to live comfortably for the rest of our lives without ever having to work again. We want to be left alone, but at the same time, we want the ability to meddle in other people's lives that do not suit us. In short, we want what we want, how we want, when we want.
And we mistakenly look upon the fulfillment of these selfish desires as true wealth.
But God knows different. He knows that true wealth does not come in the form of currency. He knows that true riches do not consist of living our lives in the way that we want to live. He knows that true freedom does not lie in the ability to have our own way and then forcing that way upon others.
So what is true wealth? It is living a life of justice and righteousness. It is having God and Jesus as our foundation. It is the possession of genuine wisdom and knowledge.
It is salvation!
And what is the key to these treasures?
It is the fear of God!
Most people will never understand this.
Most people will never have true riches.
But, you are different. You have learned the secret to obtaining the key to these treasures.
Now, what will you do with that key?
For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our Lawgiver, the LORD is our King;
It is He who will save us.
Isaiah 33:22, NIV
Today is day 5 of the 30 day challenge to read through the books of the prophets of God, with Isaiah 29-35 being the reading for today. May God richly bless you as you seek the key to true riches and as you use those riches in His service!
