Day 23: A Day of Infamy and Shame
Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence, who devise evil plans in their hearts...
Psalms 140:1-2, NIV - a Psalm of David
September 30, 2015 is a day that I believe will live as a day of infamy and shame. On that day 277 men and women from the House of Representatives joined 78 men and women from the Senate and one man in the seat of the Presidency to force all American tax payers to fund the heinous practices of Planned Parenthood as they kill innocent babies and harvest their parts to sell for profit.
My own representative and one of my state's senators voted into law a bill that would force you and I to pay for the killing of unborn babies.
I wonder what would have happened if they had passed a bill forcing us to pay for slavery. I wonder what would have happened if they had passed a bill forcing us to pay for the murder of Christians. I wonder, because I honestly don't know if our nation is righteous enough to stand up against such sin.
On the other hand, I do not wonder what would have happened if these same men and women had voted for us to give up our cell phones, I do not wonder what would have happened if they had passed a bill to force us to give up our satellite television or the internet. I do not wonder what would have happened if they had passed a bill to ban beer - America would not have stood for it!
But apparently we will stand for our leaders to force us to pay for other people's abortions. The thing that concerns me is that a government that will force that, and a people who will accept that, will likely have no end to the wickedness that they will tolerate. What will happen when they pass a law that forces women to have abortions against their will? You might scoff at that, but they have just passed this law and said that they were voting on a mere bill to fund the government. Do not underestimate the capacity of wicked men to do evil!
So, what can we do? I will tell you what I did. I wrote to my Representative and to my Senator who voted for this evil law on the day they passed it and told them that I intend to pray that they will repent or be removed from office. Now, they might not think that is a big deal, and you might not think that is a big deal, but I know what the power of God can accomplish when righteous people pray. So I for one intend to pray... how about you?
By the way, I promise that I will find something more uplifting to write about tomorrow. But for today, I believe we are a nation in peril. I know these innocent children are, so today I wanted to bring you this message.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalms 139:23-24, NIV - a Psalm of David
Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain for three and a half years.
James 5:17, NIV
Today is the 23rd day of the 30 day challenge to read through the Old Testament books of wisdom, with Psalms 131-140 being the reading for today. May God richly bless your efforts to seek His will and do it!
