Day 14: Be Still

"Be still and know that I am God."

Psalms 46:10, RSV

I can remember my sweet wife with our babies. They would be upset for this or that - often seeming to come apart at the seams - and she would hold them in her arms and rock them and say something like, "Ssshhh, it's okay... be still."

And they would! No matter how upset they had been, a session with Mama would be all that they needed. And when they settled down and were still, they were content! It was like magic!

We can have that with God. Our entire day can just seem to be out of whack. Nothing goes right at work. Lunch was not to our satisfaction. People were unreasonable. The traffic was horrible. You get home and you find that the house is falling apart and needs your immediate attention. On top of that, half of the kids are sick, and the other half tell you that you have to go down to the school and visit their principal.

You know the type of day, because you have lived it before. You feel like breaking down and crying like a baby, but what can you do? What you can do is this:

Be still and know that God is God!

Does that sound too simple? Maybe it has something to do with trust!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV
