Day 25: The Choice
"And you my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts.
If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever."
I Chronicles 28:9, NIV
In this short passage, David lays out for his son Solomon the choice that every parent needs to to clearly present to their children: Choose!
In this life each one of us will have to decide whether or not we will seek God. If we do, we will find Him. Note that the passage does not say that God may be found if we seek Him, but that He will be found. This is important for us to settle because so many people think that God's word is hard and cannot be understood. You know that tired old claim that goes something like, "No one can really understand the Bible: If ten different people read the same passage of Scripture, they will come up with ten different answers as to what it really says"
Perhaps we have fallen victim to that very type of thinking in the past. A lie repeated often enough will eventually be believed, and many of us have believed that the Bible is simply too hard to understand.
So we don't even try!
But that is not what God's word teaches. God's word teaches that if we seek Him with all of our hearts, He will be found. So the question then becomes, "Who are we going to believe?" Will we believe God when He says we can find Him, or will we believe our lazy friends who say that it is too hard?
The answer to that choice will prove to be the difference between eternal life and eternal separation from God.
Choose wisely!
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father give good gifts to those who ask Him?"
Matthew 7:7-11, NIV (From the sermon on the mount)
