Day 14: The LORD is My Rock
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer. My God , my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my Savior; thou savest me from violence;
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies."
II Samuel 22: 2-4, RSV
There in a nutshell is the secret of David's success. Though he was a champion and a king, he knew that it was not his own power that saved and protected him - it was God!
He knew though he was surrounded by some of the most courageous and mighty men to ever live, that it was God, not men, who provided the victory.
And perhaps one of the greatest lessons that we can learn from the life of David is that though it is indeed God who saves, we are still expected to do our part and make our stands.
In short, we are expected to be on God's side regardless of the consequences. And though men may attempt to punish us for being on God's side, the good news is that God's side wins every single time. David knew this and it was that knowledge, combined with his willingness to do his part then trust God for the rest, that made him one of the greatest leaders of all time.
Are you on God's side?
"This is God - His way is perfect; the promise of the LORD proves true;
He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him."
II Samuel 22:31, RSV
