Day 26: God's Perfect "GPS" System

"Fix these words of Mine in your hearts and minds..."

Deuteronomy 11:18, NIV

If you had asked anyone what the letters "GPS" stood for in the year I was born of 1960, they probably would have replied "Granny's Potato Salad". Now, while it is true that not everyone in our current age knows that GPS stands for the Global Positioning System, nearly everyone knows what it does: It takes you to where you want to go!

Our family was recently on a trip that took us all the way from Texas to the Atlantic Ocean. It was a nice trip, but the day came when we were ready to go home, so we just plugged in our address into the GPS and it told us step by step how to get home. The process was simple - all we had to do was fix Garmin with the right address and it told us exactly how to get home.

God has a similar, but much more perfect system: The Bible. The Bible tells us why we are here in the first place and how we got here. And, while it is like a GPS that can tell us how to get home if we will only plug in the right coordinates, the Word of God also reveals what the destination is and what the "coordinates" are in the first place.

But we do have our part: We must fix these directions in our hearts and minds! That is why we are reading the entire Word of God! We do not want to make any errors in "fixing in" the right coordinates, so God tells us to fix them into our hearts and minds. Here is a larger view of the passage above:

"Fix these words of Mine in your hearts and in your minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give to your forefathers..." Deuteronomy 11:18-21, NIV

Have you fixed the Word of God into your heart and mind yet? It's the only way that you and your children can go home someday!

Today is the 26th day of the thirty day challenge to read through the Books of Moses. The reading for today is the 7th through 12th chapters of Deuteronomy. May God continue to bless your efforts as you seek His word so that you can firmly fix it in your heart and mind!
