Day 16: Everything We Need to Know About God

                                                                                        EVERYTHING WE NEED TO KNOW

"For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature, namely, His eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."

Romans 1:19-20, RSV

This particular passage is one that I have used for many years when studying the Bible with others. It reveals to us that we really can know everything that God wants us to know about Him and His purpose. It tells us that we can know that there is a God simply by observing the things that He has made. When you consider this passage, its truth becomes evident: Just look at God's creation! Every created thing - from the power of His oceans, to the majesty of His mountains, to the beauty of His flowers, to the wonder of a newborn child - every thing that He has created is evidence of God that cannot be denied!

Because of this, God tells those who refuse to believe in Him that they are without excuse. Now this does not mean that some will not feel justified for not believing. It just means that regardless of the reason for someone not believing in God, it is not an acceptable excuse to Him. Since this is true (after all, He said it) then we have the responsibility to find out just Who He is and exactly what He expects of us.

That's why you are reading the Bible, isn't it? Aren't you seeking to find out what you can know about God and what He wants you to do during these brief years that you have here on earth? The beauty of God's plan is that He made it clear so that we could find out everything that He wants us to. We can find out what sin is so that we can avoid it, we can find out how to have our sins taken away so that we can be saved, and we can find out how to live the life that He wants us to live so that we can be with Him forever.

Now this may sound like a tall order for mere humans to accomplish, but He has guaranteed us that we can, for He will help us every step of the way. He loves us! What else would he do, other than to help His beloved children to be with Him forever.

One final thought. The Bible describes two types of people: Those who seek Him with all of their heart, and those who refuse to seek Him with all of their heart. Which person are you?

"Do you not know that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But by your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. For He will render to every man according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek glory and honor and immortality, He will give eternal life; but for those who are factious and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury."

Romans 2:4-8, RSV

Today is day 16 of the challenge to read through the New Testament in thirty days, with Acts 26-28 and Romans 1-6 being the reading for today. May God richly bless you as you continue to find out everything that man can know about He and His Son!
